Lecturers course Barcelona, Spain 2015

Every four years the Education and Research subcommittee of the IHA organise a lecturer’s course. This year’s event was held in sunny Barcelona. The lecturer’s course is an opportunity for senior lecturers, lecturers and trainee lecturers to meet to find out more about each other’s experiences and explore how we can best support each other to improve their lecturing in the future. The course consisted of a mix of classroom talks and discussion as well as pool-work and a chance to see some of the work they are doing in the pool with swimmers in Barcelona.

There were 3 themes to this year’s lecturer’s course:

Current and future practice in the delivery of courses: Here different approaches in the delivery of foundation and advanced courses in line with current IHA course guidelines will be covered.

Research: What research has been conducted in Halliwick and how can IHA lecturers learn from research findings and contribute to future knowledge and understanding?

The role and experience of lecturers: Here we will reflect on good practice in lecturing and mentoring and examine how we can improve the pathway from trainee lecturer to senior lecturer.

The course began after lunch on Friday 3rd July at 13:30. The IHA General meeting took place on Saturday afternoon. The course concluded with lunch from 12:30-13:30 on Sunday 5th July.
